The cask was selected in 2011 by 11 international members of the Guardians of Glenlivet community together with the brand ambassador Ian Logan.
Nose: Elegant polished oak. Yellow fruitiness, crisp orange marmalade.Water brings out also strawberry jam. Very nice, reminds (a little bit) of official 18 yo.
Palate: Oak driven but in good way & balance. Semisweet, grapefruit, orange zest, oak spices: cinnamon, vanilla. Fairly dry and crisp. Easy to enjoy at full strenght.
Finish: Orange zest, grapefruit, roasted coffee. Crisp & acrid.
Although there are some elements which remind me of the official 18 yo, elegant oakiness and more oomph give this whisky a distinct character. Very nice cask & dram indeed.

The Glenlivet Guardians, 55,7%, barril 2911, embotellado 14/11/2011. Añejado por 18 años en un barril de jerez de segundo relleno, desde el 18 de diciembre 1992.
El barril fue elegido en 2011 por 11 miembros internacionales de la sociedad Guardians of Glenlivet junto con el brand ambassador Ian Logan.
Nariz: Roble elegante pulido. Frutas amarillas, crujiente mermelada de naranjas.Poniéndole unas gotas de agua lleva también mermelada de fresas en el. Muy agradable, me hace pensar un poco en el oficial de 18 años.
Paladar: Tiene mucho roble pero en una buena manera y está en buen equilibrio. Semidulce, pomelo, cáscara de naranja, especias de roble: canela, vainilla.Bastante seco y crujiente. Fácil de disfrutar sin agua.
Final: Cáscara de naranja, pomelo, café tostado. Crujiente y punzante.
Aunque tiene algunos elementos que me hacen pensar en el oficial de 18 años, este tiene roble elegante y más oomph y estos elementos le dan un caracter distinto.Verdaderamente un barril y una copita muy agradables.
