”The Valinch being the name of the pipette used to draw whisky straight from the cask”. Ok, this is a cask strength non-chill filtered edition, without an age statement, so we are looking at rather a young whisky which is solely matured in first fill (North American) bourbon oak. As you probably know, the triple distillation method is traditionally used in Lowland distilleries, which means lighter whiskies in general.
Along with praises I’ve also heard some criticism regarding this whisky in question, but as I don’t believe any critics until I have a taste myself, I’ll have a go now – slàinte / hölkynkölkyn!
Color: Light gold.
Nose: Strong creamy notes and a fruity boost. Fresh vanillic bourbon wood with a hint of sawdust and varnish. All this is surrounded by nice mellow honey notes. Very fresh and summery. In one sentence: vanilla apricot ice cream from a (bourbon) oak plate in a recently built summer cottage.
Palate: Sweet, creamy and crispy at the arrival, the texture is nice & oily. Zesty - orange zest with a little squeeze of lime to be exact. Delicious fudge in the middle. Some dry oak notes in the finish. Definitely needs some water to fully open up (handles water very well). Diluted: nice coolness of crushed mint leaves plus sweet fruit drops. Cool and fresh; leaves you wanting more and more.
Finish: Juicy / fruity with a pinch of black pepper & drying oak.
Verdict: A very nice and brisk young Lowlander, a classic example of a good first fill bourbon matured whisky - clear and easy, and fairly reasonably priced as well.

Auchentoshan Valinch. 2011 edición limitada. 57,5 %
Durante bastante tiempo he omitido en mi blog – y por ninguna razón – los maravillosos whiskies de Lowland. Vamos a arreglar esta cosa ahora con una copita para empezar. Hoy en día Auchentoshan, creo yo, es el whisky de Lowland más conocido entre connoisseurs, si dejamos fuera las legendarias destilerias como Rosebank, St Magdalene. De hecho, hoy día quedan solo cinco destilerias activas en la region de whisky escocés más al sur.
Junto con elogios, también he oído un poco de crítica sobre este whisky, pero como no creo en las palabras de ningún crítico antes de probarlo yo mismo, ahora vamos – ¡slàinte / hölkynkölkyn!
Color: Oro pálido.
Nariz: Notas fuertes de crema y un empujón frutado. Madera fresco de bourbon con vainilla y un toque de aserrín y barniz. Todo está rodeado por unas notas suaves de miel. Muy fresco y veraniego. En una frase: helado de vainilla y albaricoque en un plato de roble (de bourbon) en una cabaña de verano recién construido.
Paladar: Dulce, cremoso y crujiente al principio, la textura es agradable y aceitosa. Ácido - la cáscara de naranja con un poco de zumo de lima para ser exactos. Fudge delicioso en el medio. Unas notas de roble seco en el final. Definitivamente necesita unas gotas de agua para realmente abrirse (maneja muy bien el agua). Diluido: frescura agradable de hojas de menta y caramelos de fruta. Fresco; te deja queriendo más y más.
Final: Jugoso / afrutado con una pizca de pimienta negra y roble seco.
Veredicto: Un whisky joven muy agradable y dinámico de Lowland, un ejemplo clásico de un buen whisky envejecido en bourbon de primer uso - claro y fácil, y también tiene un precio bastante razonable.
