Color: Gold with orange hue.
Nose: Standing on the deck of the Helsinki-Stockholm ferry in the middle of stormy Baltic Sea. If you haven’t experienced that, it means lots of fresh briny sea air. Plenty of vanilla and butterscotch. Smoke is not in your face, it’s toned down by strong lemon and peaty earthy tones. Very appealing, I must say.
Palate: Sharp as a blade. Lots of citric notes of lemon, lime and orange zest. Heat comes in the form of ginger with a good pinch of black pepper. Butterscotch sweetness. Obligatory peat smoke includes elements of damp earth & wet wool. With water, more peat and some flowery notes appear, I think it’s orange blossoms, as the official tasting notes also state in the bottle. This is quite excellent as neat so you can skip the water.
Finish: Relatively short, dries up to a fistful of dry wood spices with some peat and honey in it.
Yep, I was drawn into the storm. This is a good example of excellent first fill bourbon casks and great distillation. Fairly simple but oh, so enjoyable.

Durante el siglo XXI Bowmore ha puesto a la venta varios productos con nombres marítimos, por ejemplo Laimrig, Mariner, Sea Dragon, Surf y Voyage. El Tempest continua esta tradición con este lanzamiento de un lote pequeño - bueno, algunos quizas no dirían que un lote de 12 000 botellas fuera pequeño, pero… El lote número 5 está el último en este momento y fue puesto en el mercado en 2014. Entusiastas de whisky pueden ahora batir sus peludas palmas para el hecho de que estos embotellados Tempest tengan una declaración de edad (10 años), cosa que no es obvio en estos días de NAS tan de moda. Entonces, vamos a tomar una copa del lote # 1.
Color: Oro con un matiz anaranjado.
Nariz: Subir a la cubierta de un ferry navegando entre Helsinki y Estocolmo en el Mar Báltico en una tormenta. Si no lo has experimentado, quiere decir muchísimo aire de mar fresco con sal. Mucha vainilla y dulces butterscotch. El humo no es muy evidente, está suavizado por un fuerte limón y tonos turbosos de tierra. Debo decir que es muy atrayente. Paladar: Muy ácido. Muchas notas cítricas de limón, lima y cáscara de naranja. Jengibre y una pizca generosa de pimienta negra le dan fuerza. Dulzura de caramelos butterscotch. El obligatorio humo de turba tiene elementos de tierra mojada y lana empapada. Con agua, aparece más turba y unas notas de flores, creo que son flores de naranjo, como se pone también en la cata oficial en la botella. Está excelente como puro y así puedes saltarte el agua si quieres.
Final: Relativamente corto, se seca a un puñado de especias de madera con un poco de turba y miel.
Sí, yo fui arrastrado por la tormenta. Es un buen ejemplo de unas excelentes barricas de bourbon de primer uso y de una destilación estupenda. Bastante simple pero oh, tan placentero.
