Amrut Intermediate Sherry (NAS). Batch No. 13. 1 650 bottles, 57,1%

Some Indian whisky for a change. As you might have noticed, I’ve tasted a couple of Amruts in the past in my blog and all of them have been fairly decent. Let’s see if this consistent pattern continues.

Color: Copper.

Nose: Clean oloroso sherry, no trace of sulphur or (intermediate) tyres.  Red berries, defrozen strawberries, turkish delights & sweet malted barley.

Palate: Medium bodied & semi sweet. Absolutely delicious, this is what you would expect from a quality (NAS) sherry whisky bottling. Juicy sherry, fudge, raisins, a big spice hit and after a while some floral notes appear, everything is surrounded by oak. This whisky actually feels a lot older than just a couple of years, I guess it has something to do with the tropical climate in Bangalore. Due to the high ABV it is quite hot and needs a good dose of water to reveal all its beauty – sweet soya sauce, rose petals and a little bit of tannins which means in other words, green tea.

Finish: Not the longest one - the finish is a little less to my liking in this nice dram. Liquorice, sultanas, green tea.

Amrut delivers. As they say, age is just a number.

Un whisky indio para variar. Se habrá notado que he probado algunos whiskies de Amrut en el pasado en mi blog y todos han sido bastante decentes. Vamos a ver si continua este patrón consistente.

Color: Cobre.

Nariz: Jerez oloroso puro, no hay ni un rastro de azufre o neumáticos (intermedios). Bayas rojas, fresas descongeladas, delicias turcas & cebada dulce malteada.

Paladar: De cuerpo medio & semi dulce. Absolutamente delicioso, eso es lo que se espera de un whisky de jerez de buena calidad. Jerez jugoso, caramelo de dulce de leche, pasas, muchas especias y después de un rato aparecen algunas notas florales, todo está rodeado de roble. Este whisky parece en realidad mucho más viejo de lo que es, creo que tiene algo que ver con el clima tropical de Bangalore. Tiene un ABV alto y por eso necesita una buena dosis de agua para que revele toda su belleza – salsa de soja dulce, pétalos de rosa, un poco de taninos, lo que significa en otras palabras, té verde.

Final: No es muy largo - el final de esta copita agradable no es exactamente para mi gusto. Regaliz, pasas sultanas, té verde.

Amrut cumple. Como se dice, la edad es sólo un número.
