Teerenpeli, "Straight from the Cask", 10 yo, 58,5 %.

The Finnish Teerenpeli distillery is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. To honour this special year, Teerenpeli has delivered one 16-litre cask to each Teerenpeli restaurant. These casks are "living casks", which have been modified from ex-sherry cask into the 16-litre casks.

I tasted this special edition at Teerepeli Kamppi (Helsinki, Finland) restaurant roughly one month ago (14 February). As this whisky is in a living cask (as a portion of the whisky in the cask is sold, they add new whisky into the cask which changes the profile little by little), therefore today it would taste a bit different.

When it comes to the circumstances of my tasting, it was not ideal (as compared to my usual tasting settings at home): First of all, very bad music - I prefer silence or at least decent music; crowded noisy restaurant, air filled with odors from the restaurant kitchen - fried meatballs, brown sauce, french fries etc.). Nonethless, let's see.   

Nose: Fresh Granny Smith apples. Butterscotch with vanilla drops. Sawdust, varnish.

Palate: Quite big vanilla. Polished oak, hints of sherry. Crisp and sharp. Rather full bodied.

Finish: Fairly long with notes of butterscotsh and wood spices. Hints of wine gum.

Very easy drinking, nothing shocking and a no-brainer but still very good stuff. So if you visit one of the Teerenpeli restaurants in Finland, have a dram of this.

La destilería finlandesa Teerenpeli está celebrando su vigésimo aniversario este año. Para honrar este año especial, la destilería ha entregado una barrica de 16 litros a cada restaurante Teerenpeli. Estas barricas son de estilo "living casks" que han sido modificados de barricas de jerez a barricas de 16 litros.

Probé esta edición especial en el restaurante Teerenpeli de Kamppi (Helsinki, Finlandia) hace más o menos un mes (14 febrero). Como este whisky es de una barrica "living" (cuando una porción del whisky ha sido vendido, añaden un poco de whisky nuevo en la barrica y eso cambia el perfil poco a poco), así que hoy el whisky sabrá un poco diferente.

En cuanto a las circunstancias de esta cata, no fueron ideales (comparado con las catas que normalmente escrito en casa): Lo primero de todo, música muy mala - prefiero silencio o por lo menos música decente; un restaurante ruidoso y lleno de gente, en el aire muchos olores desde la cocina del restaurante - albóndigas, salsa, patatas fritas etc. No obstante, vamos a ver.

Nariz: Manzanas Granny Smith frescas. Dulces de mantequilla y azúcar con un poco de vainilla. Aserrín, barniz.

Paladar: Vainilla bastante grande. Roble pulido, un toque de jerez. Crujiente y ácido. Bastante con mucho cuerpo.

Final: Bastante largo con toques de dulces de mantequilla y azúcar y también madera aromática. Unos toques de pastillas de goma (gominolas).

Una bebida muy fácil, nada escandalosa y es un no-brainer (fácil, obvio) pero en todo caso es una bebida muy buena. Así que si visitas uno de los restaurantes Teerenpeli en Finlandia, valdrá la pena probar una copita de este whisky.
